Although the wait to this local restaurant, the service made the worth the wait. They were helpful on explaining some of the local favorites. The all you can eat is the way to go!

Me and my wife love this place. Everytime we visit New Orleans we try to get to Salvo's. The all you can eat platter is awesome. I love their seasoning so much I took some home to Memphis, tn with me.

What a great hole in the wall seafood joint. They serve beer and I went in a Wednesday night which was all you can eat crawfish and stone crab claws. Let me tell you they include sausage, corn, potatoes, garlic and onion in the boil and it's also all you can eat the seasoning was pretty good a little to much old bay type seasoning and not enough cayenne but still pretty good I ate well over 8 pounds of crawfish so for $19 bucks it's definitely a good deal.

I have eaten at salvos many times over the years and always left satisfied. However, last night my son requested having dinner there over any other restaurant in NO after his graduation. He enjoyed the all you can eat seafood extravaganza and I ordered the seafood combo (shrimp, oysters, catfish plus soft shell crab for an additional charge). When my plate arrived, it was noticeable small, and all the seafood was small, in particular the shrimp, it was popcorn shrimp! Most of the oysters were the size of marbles, and there were two small strips of catfish. The soft shell crab was obviously a juvenile. I asked my server to replace the shrimp with some that were more traditional on a seafood platter. She returned and said, that's the size shrimp that comes with the seafood combo. I then asked her to replace the shrimp with catfish, and she returned stating that the manager said that I could purchase the catfish extra! Needless to say, in my opinion, Salvos with a manager that has an attitude like that towards their customers 'ain't all that'!! ...especially with lit'l G's and zydacos at arms reach, and which both have excellent seafood platters and service!

Awesome food if you go to New Orleans you need to go here and eat might be the best seafood in town

SALVO'S....mmmm. I really like Salvos's. The seafood is super. People say it gets busy, but I've never had to wait. The service is nothing to rave about but it is adequate. The refineries nearby ensure that it is full of working guys which helps preserve the gritty, divey, atmosphere that we love. No extra decorations or trendy design, just a clean, place to have great seafood.

If you want good boiled seafood, this is the place. The prices are reasonable. The service we received was good, but I would not call it friendly. Its hard to describe as our waitress was prompt and anticipatory without being in the way. However she seemed bothered by our very presence. She also gave a speech about how she does not believe in tips when she came around for our drink order. But other than her weird attitude and diatribe on tipping, her service was impeccable.

I don't really get the fascination with this place. It is always packed for lunch and dinner. It's a madhouse on the weekends. I have only been once and it has been a while. I believe I got fried catfish. It was pretty bland, I wasn't a fan of the breading. I don't have anything bad to say about the place, but nothing bowled me over either. For me, it isn't worth the wait. Give me Zydeco's any day.

Salvo's was a nice treat for a group of us that don't make it to the West Bank very often. Several of us tried and were fans of the ribs, though the wet ribs definitely went over better than the spicier dry ribs. The sandwiches were quite good, and all of the employees were super friendly making our entire party feel right at home. As Patty J. mentioned, the prices are indeed quite good.

After much deliberation and searching for the best place for a local shrimp boil, we decided on salvos. Walking up to the place, I knew we were going to stick out like sore thumbs, but we didn't care. The night we went was all you can eat shrimp boil and that's what the bf went with. I went with hush puppies and crab legs but snuck a few bites from his boil. My dinner was good, but his was FANTASTIC. They bring it out on a massive platter. And then you eat it. And, astoundingly, if you bring a giant with you they keep refilling said platter. At one point I gave my sig. Other that "look" that said "if you eat any more of this heaven on a platter, you will get sick and I'm not taking care of a sick person on vacation. So stop eating". I want to give this place 5 stars for being that awesome local place. But I can't. Our waitress was indifferent towards us...not exactly rude but not exactly friendly like dead was with everyone who didn't have a Wisconsin accent. The other reason? The 2 toilets in the bathroom sans a partition (the toilets were/are literally next to each other) While I was washing shrimp juice off my hands, someone knocked on the door yelling " open up, I know there's 2 toilets in there" . I may have been a tourist, and I know I didnt know local customs, but that struck me as incredibly odd. And something I'm still giggling about as I write this.

Want to get your boiled/raw/fried seafood fix? Get in your car and make the trek to Belle Chase and eat at Salvo's. Hands down, best berled seafood around. Good prices. Cheap beer. Great/lovely/make you feel at home servers. Laid-back atmosphere. They usually have a seafood special everynight be it cheap oysters on Tuesday or all-u-can eat (insert seafood type here). Good remoulade sauce too.

I ordered boiled crawfish and all the trimmings for my family's Easter Sunday gathering. I ordered early in the week to ensure my order could be fulfilled. The girl who took my order over the phone said that they could GUARANTEE my order would be filled since I'd be buying boiled rather than live crawfish. That Friday, my husband and I dined in and before leaving, we added to our order that would be picked up Sunday morning. On Saturday I received a call from one of the employees informing me that my crawfish would be COLD upon pick up the next morning, as they were being boiled Saturday then iced down overnight. Who the hell does that? Everyone knows that you don't ice down boiled crawfish! I told her that I'd have to talk to my husband before deciding if we'd still want the order. Of course I already knew that he wasn't going to want the order. Peeling cold crawfish that have been iced down is like peeling rocks! Before I could call back, another employee called me and informed me that my GUARANTEED order would not be fulfilled because they wouldn't have enought crawfish to fill the order. Minutes later I spoke with yet another employee regarding the same issue. I asked her if she'd want to eat crawfish that had been boiled the day before then iced overnight, and she sad, "No, m'am." Well, of course she wouldn't! No normal person would! Total lack of communication among employees and no explanation as to why I wasn't informed about the cold crawfish when I placed the original order nor when I added to the order. No apology from the employees for waiting until the day before Easter to call me and tell me this. I had to cancel my family gathering for Easter. I've been a loyal customer of Salvo's for years, but sadly, they will no longer receive my business after this problem.

Great price for the delicious food and good portion. Every time I come home to visit my parents, we always have to eat here at least once before going home. Dinner time tends to be crowded, long waits and hard to find parking space. Lunch time is the same. With yesterday's visit, which is a Saturday, we came there at 11am (even though I think they open at 8am on weekend) to beat the lunch rush and loved it. No waiting, easy to find a parking and not crowd at all. This time, we tried their fried alligator. It's texture is like chicken but a little bit chewy. I liked the chewiness but I wouldn't order it regularly. We ordered boiled crawfish ($3.99/lb) and the price was cheap comparing to Dallas'. The crawfish was well seasoned and cooked, not over cooked or salty. LOVE it. Overall, most food we tried there are great. We had the following: - 2 plate of soft shell crab combo, one with reg fries and the other with sweet potato fries The sweet potato fries were better than the reg fries. - bowl of seafood gumbo - 1 plate of oyster combo with potato salad - crawfish ($3.99/lb) - raw oysters ($8.95/doz) Last summer, we tried their Charbroiled Oysters and it wasn't as good as Drago's. We tried almost everything on the menu and a fan of this place. In short, great place for price with good portion.

Crawfish, shrimp, crab legs, sausage , con on the cob. Throw in raw oyster for $4.50 dz. can't be beat

This is one of the best values on all you can eat shrimp, crawfish and crabs. They have an extensive and affordable menu with a selection that will probably satisfy most people. Seating is at large picnic style tables and it can get loud in here when its crowded. Even though this place is on the Westbank its a really quick trip from the city and from Uptown its really faster to access than most restaurants in the French Quarter or Bucktown. The biggest criticisms I have are that the shrimp are sometimes over cooked and when it gets busy service can sometimes take longer than I would like. Overall this is a great casual seafood spot that is mostly a locals joint that will give you a lot of bang for your buck.

THE BEST place to get boiled seafood anywhere. We've taken the trip to Belle Chasse just to eat here since I was a kid. Check them out on facebook to get their daily all-you-can-eat specials. It's a shame there's nothing like this at all in New Orleans.

    (5)
  • Sabrina N.

The seafood tasted very fishy and I'm pretty sure that the potatoes we're rotten but they cooked it anyway! Our waitress walked right passed us and did not ask if we wanted more seafood. To get back on the fishy seafood, the crabs were SOOO fishy, it was most probably not seasoned enough. Overall I give this place a 2 because of the bad food! For the two, I liked the shrimp, mushrooms, and my drink!

Salvo's is the best kept secret on the westbank! All you can eat specials every Friday and Saturday and they are so delicious! Recently it's been seafood extravaganza for less than $30 a person. The pitcher are cheap and the service is always so friendly. Be prepared to wait in line, but it is always worth it!

Fabulous, fresh shrimp and oysters! The all you can eat specials are the same top notch quality food. Servers are friendly. Nothing fancy on the outside or inside-if you want to be snobbish, go on to the Quarter. If you want excellent food in a family friendly atmosphere-and at a great price, THIS IS THE PLACE!!

Salvo's is a great hole in the wall seafood place. The boiled seafood is on point. I've never had better boiled shrimp. It's too early for crawfish but I can't wait to go back and try theirs. There's always a long line but it's worth the wait.

My favorite place to eat in Southern Louisiana by far. Inexpensive prices for food and drinks, I have never left Salvo's without eating, and taking food as takeout to eat later when I can't get back to the restaurant. My favorites include half shell oysters, jambalaya, fried catfish, crawfish boil, crab/shrimp boil, gumbo, and the sausage poboy with Cajun sausage. There are many other things to eat and I am sure they are all done very well. On my last visit I had crab and shrimp boil for $27.99 all you can eat. I probably ate 2 1/2 to 3 dungeoness crabs and 2 pounds of the big Gulf Coast shrimp, with corn on the cob and red potatos. I was so full I could barely walk when leaving, but I knew I wouldn't get back for a while and needed a firm reminder just how good Salvo's food is.

Pumped that I got Review of the Day today for my previous review of Salvo's! Pretty funny since I went back for dinner this evening. Unfortunately, I think the "last meal" worthy experience I had last time was once in a lifetime. The moon was aligned with the seas and the crab boil water aligned with the seasoning molecules to produce the most bounitful, flavorful seafood I've ever had. Tonight the snow crabs seemed kinda fishy tasting and the blue crabs, well, I am just too lazy to pick through those. Even the shrimp were over boiled. It was an off night for sure and for $73 for three people, off nights are a bummer.

I've only ever been here for the all-you-can-eat boiled seafood special which starts at 5 in the evening. Somehow, I always end up coming on Thursdays. I frickin love Salvo's. There's usually a wait so get there early if you plan to eat some boil. $28-$32 usually gets you some combination of snow crab legs, shrimp, jonah/stone claws, and crawfish (they update you on their facebook page) with potatos, sausage, corn, and garlic. You may think that price seems high. But if you can peel efficiently and put away some serious seafood and partake in the $1 domestic longneck special (Thursdays only?), it's no different than eating seafood in the heart of New Orleans, except probably cheaper and more delicious, suckers. Waitresses have ranged from funny to mellow to spastic. It takes all kinds and I like it. If you're a girl, bring a buddy to pee with because there's no divider between bathroom toilets. Just wash your hands first.

Best Catfish and Coleslaw! I usually don't eat fried, which the Catfish was, but it's Louisiana and I'm from Washington state so I went for it. It was worth it, I don't know if it was the batter they fried it in or what but it was amazing Catfish. The value in what you get for your money favors the customer 10:1. I got 4 good-sized cuts of fried Catfish with Coleslaw, Dirty Rice, and 2 slices of Sourdough bread for around 6 bucks I think it was. That's hard to beat ANYWHERE especially in an area (Gulf Coast region) where that food is the so-called "bread and butter".

Amazing oysters and shrimp po-boys. Crowds at night usually. Do think your just gonna stop in and eat fast

This is definitely worth a visit. I was rolling solo for this little dinner outing as I was only in town for business. Thank goodness the hotel clerk mentioned this place. Get there early because there will definitely be a line any day of the week. The have daily specials so without having anything else to go on, I went with the special of the day, all-you-can-eat fried frog legs. I was a bit gun-shy at first about making a bunch of double amputees out of perfectly good bullfrogs, but after my first bite, I was hooked. The meat is much like chicken, but the breading was delicious. It came with small hush puppies, bread, and a small side salad. Don't waste your time (or stomach space) eating these. Since they are only meant to fill you up. The service was a little slow getting my frog leg refills, but they were busy and my waitress, Sunshine, was on point with water refills and the occasional "is everything ok?" This place is a diamond in the rough on the West Bank.

Best seafood on the Westbank!.. Great for groups, ordered pounds of everything on the menu from oysters, shrimp, crawfish and even order two huge steaks! Everything was spectacular.. No this is not a classy sit down restaurant, this is a bring 5 of your friends, grab a table and eat the best seafood from the coast restaurant.. You can also order for takeout!

  • Jessi B.

It's always packed which must be a good sign! My husband loves this place & always orders the Crawfish. Definitely a place to just order what they are famous for. Their Salads are really just bag lettuce. I once ordered their Cesar Salad and it just had the powered Parmesan cheese & bag croutons, nothing impressive. I would have preferred fresh, shredded cheese...a little nicer if you know what I mean. (I am aware it is not a salad restaurant) You just need to know what to order. It's not the fanciest place and its pretty loud in there but I go for my man and the Belle Chasse people seem to really love it! The Alaskan King Crabs are awe$ome but you have to pay for this deliciousness!

  • Brian D.

Very decent quantity, quality and prices. Seafood is either fried or boiled and includes shrimp, oysters, clams, catfish, crawfish, and crab. They also have boiled potatoes, sausage, etc. I also saw a alligator po boy which looked pretty good. Decor is very simple / homey, and service was nice.

I honestly do not know how this place has this many good reviews. My family and I have giving this place a million trys, being that we are from belle chase, and it always seems to disapoint us. First of all, salvos DOES NOT clean there seafood property or correctly. Almost every time we've been the bottom of the tray is almost black from boiling dirty seafood, and the seafood has been gritty. There have been countless times where the seafood tasted extremely fishy or like it was boiled early in the week and just re dipped. I also know someone who used to work there and apparently they are not sanitary when handling people's food. I understand that every place has its ups and downs or hit and misses but after spending the money we have here for the quality of seafood you get and for being disappointed time after time, we simply chose not to go. There are PLENTY of other good quality places to get your seafood, and this place certainly is not it.

Not a huge fan of Salvos the locals just love it. Personally, I think they serve a salty craw-fish boil but hey that's my opinion. The po-boys are very average - I do like the cole slaw and love it that they give the local military a 10% discount - the fried oysters are a good deal 50 cents each The servers are friendly and the service is quick - average price

  • Mike S.

In a town with so many seafood houses with similar menus, Salvo's stands out. It's crowded at dinnertime, but you won't wait long: you'll be seated at a wooden table with bench seating. The menu is shrimp, crab (soft and hard shell), catfish and crawfish, available on a bun, as a po-boy, or as a plate. Side dishes include potato salad and cole slaw; beer is available as are soups such as shrimp-and-crab. Specials include all-you-can-eat hard shell crab and crawfish, price varies daily, we have seen it at $16, $18, and $21 on successive days. Also a retail fish market. Ask for remoulade sauce. Don't forget the bread pudding.

The special for the day was a really tasty smoked turkey poboy with turkey gravy and cranberry sauce!! It's was very good, and reminded me of a left overs sandwich the day after thanksgiving it Christmas. The service left something to be desired, but was a great lunch.

Way off the beaten path -- we only knew about Salvo's because a friend from the New Orleans area recommended it. From the city, expect a bit of a drive to this very casual, West Bank restaurant but it's worth the extra time it takes to get there. We feasted on sweet and tender, perfectly seasoned, boiled local blue crab -- what a treat -- plus shrimp and crawfish. Crab-stuffed jalapeno poppers also were great. Very reasonably priced at about $35 (before tip) for two of us.

This is a locally owned seafood resturaunt who gets all local seafood, the only thing that isnt local is some select items. I think that Sal does a great job in satisfying his customers, being that before i was even living in belle chasse we were eating at salvos as regulars. Their boiled seafood can be amazing at times but once it sits out for too long it gets a little yucky. The only thing i think they should possibly do is add some televisions so they can get crowds for the games as when you walk in and the LSU game is on television it is a ghost town. Other than that i think that the family does a great job opperating the establishment and the service is normally awsome!

Ate here with friends last night. Actually found it via the iPhone Yelp application! Very low-key, neighborhood joint. Nice waitresses who will joke with you. The all-you-can-eat crawfish platters smelled amazing although I went with the ribs - yum! Potato salad was great. Skip the "salad" it's just poboy fixins in a cup. Looks like they are open for lunch and dinner, but certain items like the ribs are only available after 5. They sell their food in bulk too if you want to buy it for a party. Just wanted to point out from Patty J.'s review that this place isn' "cajun" exactly...you're not going to find jambalaya and gumbo and such...it's pretty much exclusively seafood, poboys, and a little bbq.

  • Jack X.

Salvo's is an excellent place for boiled seafood, as it is relatively reasonable compared to other seafood restaurants in the Greater New Orleans area. The fried seafood is pretty good, too, as the quantities and qualities of entrees and po-boys are beyond satisfactory. Located on Belle Chasse Highway (LA-23) between the Belle Chasse Tunnel/Judge Perez Lift Bridge and LA-406 (Woodland Highway, near Balestra's). If you're looking for oyster shells, there are plenty in the parking lot. In terms of boiled seafood, there are the usual items, like crawfish, shrimp, and dungeness crab, but there are some unusual items, too, like rock crab claws and mussels, sausage, and garlic. I have been here many a time in the past decade and have never had any issues, it's always been good.

Yum! This place hits the spot when you're craving fresh seafood. Roomy tables and nice deli in front. I had a shrimp poboy and boiled crawfish with potatoes and corn. Liked the poboy but the mix for their crawfish boil is way too salty.

  • Dawn M.

Salvo's is the standard Friday night fare in our house. Combo platters all around with a side of hush puppies. We also usually grab a bag of boiled red potatoes and corn to eat as sides. If you don't have to go to sit down for dinner, call ahead and pick it up to enjoy at home. Otherwise, you could wait a while since all you can eat specials are common most nights of the week.

Salvo's is a fun casual place for seafood. We stopped by for dinner after a big day out in the city and I had 2 pounds of crawfish for $5.50 (prices are seasonal). The crawfish was excellent and well seasoned! I loved it! The gumbo was good too, although it could have had more meat in it. My friends had fried oysters, shrimp and fish, and it was all good. The restaurant is very busy so our waitress was a bit hard to get a hold of sometimes. Other than that, no complaints.

  • Allison M.

If seafood is what you seek, Salvo's is your salvation! We went there on a tip from a local, in search for a real "boil." Salvo's not only delivered the most delicious crab, shrimp and mussels, but a lot of it! For only $25 you can have a feeding frenzy! The service was exceptional! Here is a tip, get there early because this is local hot spot that gets packed! My husband loved this restaurant so much he wants to move to New Orleans!

  • Patty J.

Oh my goodness! Out of all the cajun restaurants I have eaten at, this one is my all time favorite. Their boiled crawfish, boiled potatoes and corn are the best I have ever had. We ate here at least 4 times a month with our friends. A great place to eat and visit with your friends. P.S. The price is very good.

I went to lunch at Salvo's today. It was my first visit since before Katrina. They have such an amazing reputation in Belle Chasse for boiled seafood I was really hoping for some boiled crabs! They were out, which is NOT the reason for the bad review. Fresh boiled seafood is always subject to availability. I ordered 3lbs of crawfish and the crab stuffed jalapenos. The crawfish were hot dipped which is totally fine for lunch on a Tuesday! The problem was that they were muddy and gritty and did not seem to have been "washed and walked" adequately to purge them. This is totally unacceptable for a seafood house! The stuffed peppers were awful as well! The crab was just a mealy mush that didn't taste like seafood at all. They just had no taste and two others at my table tried them and agreed. My friends had raw oysters, shrimp po-boys and gumbo and were happy with their choice. The crawfish at the Rivershack are much much better! Even the crawfish at Cajun's on the corner of Washington and Broad are better! What a shame!

  • Dustin D.

When you pull up in the parking lot you're not really sure what to expect but the place is packed and right away that tells you that this place is something good. This place just has a good atmosphere. They have a variety of different seafood from crabs, shrimp, crawfish, oysters, poboys, gumbo, and even all the seasonings you would need to do your own boil. Highly recommended that you try this place!

I love this place. Love, love, love this place. For those tryin to decide on a fancy Westbank restaurant, head back across the river. Salvo's is your down home seafood joint - local, local, local. Their all you can eat anything is a fantastic deal, the poboys are wonderful and the onion rings are a must. The workers here are runnin around like crazy and you gotta grab em as they come by if you need anything cuz they're generally just a really busy crew. No sharing allowed on the all you can eat, but that's just rude when people do that anyhow so Salvo's is just enforcing good manners. They have beer and wine (I think wine?), as well.

Some how this place is not rated 5 stars instead it's rated 4 stars... I wonder why? Bunch of jokes rating restaurants and this is clearly 5. Love this spot. Somewhere someone's asking "why do you love it?" Come eat here and find out... Shrimp potato salad = best in the world and I'm the self proclaimed potato salad King.

This place was hoppin' when we went on a weekday night, and we had to wait for 40 minutes before a table opened up. I ordered the all you can eat boiled seafood platter, and my friend ordered the all you can eat fried platter. We also shared a stuffed artichoke and onion rings. There is a strict no sharing policy for the all you can eat platters - lol, what? But I ate some of my friend's fried shrimp anyway. The fried shrimps were pretty good, but in a city full of fried seafood, they were also nothing to write home about. The boiled seafood platter was a bit better but was way too salty. I could eat a crap ton of Dungeness crab usually but couldn't because of the salty deterrent. The seafood's natural sweetness was really hindered by the salt bomb that accompanied the food. The boiled seafood platter also came with garlics, mushrooms, and sausage. Those items were also too salty. The best parts of the meal was probably the stuffed artichoke and the Abita Strawberry. Abita Strawberry, you never fail to disappoint. Other products should learn from you.

Salvo's never disappoints. The oysters are big, plump, and salty--plus the owners are Croatians (and Croatians know their oysters best). The boiled seafood is clean, spicy, tasty. I think Salvo's gives their diners the biggest bang for their buck with the all you can eat . Salvo's would have five stars if there was more consistency with the servers. We do have one favorite waitress, and she really goes above and beyond to serve you well. Many of the others are young and don't try as hard. When you arrive at Salvo's, chances are you will see a line--very much worth the wait. Good quality, some of the best boiled seafood I've ever had.

Took my mom when she came into town and we loved everything. I am not a huge seafood fan and I really had to be in the mood for it, but this food was great. The all you can eat is over kill for me though. I could never eat that much. You have to eat about 4 crabs in order to get your money's worth and if you leave too much food on your plate the waiter has to pay for it out of their pocket, which I don't like. Their sauce is amazing too, so don't forget that! The wait wasn't too bad, about 20 minutes, and it looked ridiculously packed. Don't let the people sitting outside fool you. They may not be all waiting for a table. Definitely a place to eat on special occasions, seeing as how it is a little pricey.

Very generous oyster poboys. Boiled Shrimp were unusually small. Crawfish were mostly good and meaty with some small ones in the mix.

If you find yourself in New Orleans, run (do not walk) to Salvo's. It was the best po'boy I have ever had, hands down. We went for lunch. Busy. So plan ahead. And you'll need a car. But again, SO worth it. The cole slaw was great, too. And the staff was all so friendly. I cannot say enough good things about this place.

I had the (19.99$) all you can eat shrimp, stone crab claws, crabs, & sides (garlic, corn, potato, sausage) when I lasted visited. The first plate came out cold (understandable) since I came for a late lunch. & I also ordered crawfish (at 4.99$/lb). I don't like their seasoning. It was very salty seafood. If I didn't enjoy the tartar sauce on the table I wouldn't have been able to eat anything. & I was bloated almost instantly! Of the 2lbs of crawfish I ordered for the table (3 people) only about 1/3 of it was eaten because again it was overly salty and most of the crawfish were dead (black meat). I also understand that I can't fault them since crawfish season is just beginning but it's disappointing to pay a premium price for barely edible food.

Boiled shrimp, corn and potatoes. Awesome. Onion rings. Awesome. Shrimp Poboy. Awesome. Atmosphere. Awesome. You get the point. This place is badass. The food is excellent, the service is so friendly (like you're in a a family member's kitchen) and the no frills atmosphere really kind of adds to the entire experience. It felt like home. I was in very good company with my Westbank tour guide and I loved every moment. Seriously one of the best meals of my life.

The seafood is like they just caught it that day!! Exceptional food and seafood poor boys!! Everything I have tried there was wonderful!! Dine in on private tables and large picnic tables . You can call in an order and pick up too!! Just a place you don't want to miss eating there!!! Lizzie Giambelluca

Good ole fashion southern hospitality and cooking. We came here for a group luncheon. I ate the gator po-boy with unsweetened tea, The po-boy bread was good but the gator bites were mostly batter (but tasty). I asked for unsweetened tea and got sweetened tea... I dare not ask for a change. :) Folks on the table ordered the oysters which turned out good. The catfish seemed lacking and was returned for a new order. It's an okay place for lunch.

Oh Salvo's. My heart beats for you. Until, of course, your wonderful boiled and fried seafood eventually gives me a heart attack. This is one of my all-time favorite places in all of Louisiana. They offer all you can eat boiled seafood specials every night of the week. Wednesday is roll back night, the prices are even cheaper than normal! Weekends are usually seafood extravaganza, meaning shrimp, all the sides, and a few kinds of crab (or crawfish if its that glorious time of year) for a set price. For those of you who are connoisseurs, their boil is nice and spicy without being too salty, it's great and available to buy as well. They've got other great specials too, like $1 beer on Thursdays and oysters on the half shell for a reduced price. You can end up waiting in line, so be patient.

I had just arrived in New Orleans with a craving for seafood. This place has completely satisfied my craving. For appetizer we had the fried mushrooms, which were served hot out of the frier. So delish! It was tough not to fill up on these and leave room for the main dish. For the main course I chose the charbroiled oysters which were outstanding in flavor. Days later I am still dreaming about them even after frequenting other restaurants during my stay in New Orleans. Other guests in my party had the AYCE fried soft shell crab and AYCE fried shrimp. Fried to tasty goodness! I really enjoy the casual dining experience of this restaurant. Its certainly kid friendly. Out table consisted of an picnic table with benches and covered by cloth and plastic. Not the sexiest of restaurants but the food tasted great. Also you can buy seafood as if you were at a grocery store. A lb. of shrimp as of this writing is $3.99! That same lb. is $15 in Vegas! On Thursdays you can get $1 budweisers! If youre staying in Terrytown or Gretna Id recommend going here for seafood.

Never had a bad experience here. The food is wonderful and the service is great too. I have tried multiple food items from here and they were all great. The boiled seafood is salty, but that is to be expected when eatting boiled seafood. It is excellent food, but when I go, I expect to have to take a nap after. I recommend this place 100% for the food and nice people.

Salvo's has the best boiled seafood. Everything is seasoned very well, not too spicy but definitely not bland. Service is always good. It's my "must go to" place for boiled seafood.

I just love salvos! I think I am becoming a regular over the years! I've eaten the crawfish here twice during the current season and it had been good! perfect seasoning! The crawfish isnt too big yet, but I dont mind. It is currently $4.85 a pound! I love their oysters! It never disappoint for $8.99/dozen! So its better than driving across the river for happy hour!! I also had their gumbo today and it was delicious!!! I also had their pull pork in the past, all you can eat, poboys, and side items such as potato salad, fries, fried pickles. THEY ARE ALL GOOD!! Thursdays they have $1 budlight, coors light!!! My friends love the grilled shrimp caesar salad also!

Been coming to Salvo's with my family for years. It's a great, no frills seafood dive for anyone looking for good, reasonably priced seafood on the Westbank. The way they sort their boiled crabs can be inconsistent at times (they claim them to be jumbos when they are clearly medium). I also wish they would expand the menu. Skip the fried seafood, I've had much better elsewhere. The grilled tuna is awesome, either as an entree with corn and sautéed potatoes or on top of a Caesar salad. They also have lots of weekly drink specials. If you're in the area stop by and give them a try.

I went in around lunchtime and had the boiled crawfish. They had good flavor, but weren't very spicy. They weren't even hot in temperature.

Awesome, awesome, awesome. I was happy to continue the tradition of Navy Sailors to dine and drink here. Great shrimp po' boy and really cold, cheap beer while you wait outside on the porch. My two hungry pals had the bottomless crawfish... THREE helpings each! Good job.

NO.. NO.. and NO... do not go. With all the amazing and inexpensive choices of seafood in the area... you do need to come here. We ordered crab legs, crawfish, sausages, jalapeno poppers, crab cake... the only eatable thing were the sausages. And SO expensive! This place is not worth it.

We ate there tonight, the food was amazing, ayca boiled seafood and fixins. The service was the best that I have seen in a long time. If the noise level would not have been unbearable, 5 stars would have been given.

My friends and I used to go here every Wednesday for the all-you-can-eat special. We even gave ourselves the name "the Wednesday Crew." I'm giving them 5 stars, not because it's fancy smancy, but because of the good service and memories I have here. Miss Debbie was always our waitress. She's nice and does a really good job. On Wednesdays, they usually have either all-you-can-eat blue crabs, dungeness crabs, or crawfish. Also, with the special are potatoes, sausage, etc. There is one warning. There is usually always a line. The fresh oysters make it worth waiting.

Salvo's is AMAZING. Don't be put off that it is "all the way" in Belle Chasse. It is most definitely worth the trip. This is a pretty basic restaurant. You walk in and order whatever you want at the counter and then you sit at one of the picnic style tables. It's no frills, but the food is delicious. I always get the oyster po boy and I am never disappointed. The oysters are always fat and juicy and really good. Other than po boys, Salvo's has other fried seafood, platters and boiled seafood. The staff is super nice and will make you feel right at home.

While passing through NAS JRB area we wanted to have a good bowl of gumbo and had no desire to fight the traffic to NO. Found Salvo's on Yelp and very glad we gave it a try. First of all the most important aspect to me is service. Our waiter Rory was top notch, pleasant, friendly and professional, he gets five stars! The gumbo was great also. We also tried the seafood combo which was OK. Nothing fancy here but a nice and friendly place to eat. This will be our first choice when we return.

It's been 5 visits since my first review. Our last outing was on Tuesday and to say it was enjoyable would be a huge understatement. I tried to get the daily special but by 2pm, they were sold out. I was upset for less than 20 seconds because our waitress informed us they had an oyster special that day. A dozen oysters for $4.99 is a great deal and the fact that they were HUGE and sweet and salty is a huge bonus. 2 dozen made me feel even better. Paired with some (slightly overly salted) gator bites and some coleslaw made it a wonderful treat. I've upped my review to 5 stars because they've more than proven themselves to be consistent, affordable and the waitstaff impeccable. Looking forward to going back over and over.

I had the fried alligator and fries. It was good, nothing special though. The place was packed with locals so I'm assuming other things on the menu must be pretty solid.

This is one of my favorite seafood restaurants for boiled seafood! I only tried the all you can eat once and decided that I just can't eat enough to justify ordering it again! The all you can eat specials vary depending on what is in season is., crawfish, shrimp, crab legs etc. Like my friend Danon said this place gets packed and it's very difficult to park. Keep in mind there is parking in the back as well. i've only gone for lunch and dinner on weekends and usually have to wait for a table. It's not fancy with regular tables and picnic size tables but the food is good! My parents usually get the soft shell crab and fried seafood combo. Last time I went I got some boiled crawfish with corn, potatoes etc on the side. My mom also loves their bread pudding and orders it every time we go. So for some down home boiled seafood I suggest you come down to Salvo's! Happy Seafood eating!

Stumbled upon this place while I was headed back to NOLA from playing a round of golf at English Turn. I saw the parking lot was full so figured Salvo's must be worth checking out. Salvo's is a casual locals joint with no frills tables and benches. I took a number to be seated and waited for about ten minutes. Once seated I knew why they were so busy. They were offering AYCE crawfish and shrimp boil with sausage, corn and mushrooms for $19.99! They also had a AYCE fried oysters w/ FF and salad for $13.99 which is what I opted for. The seafood was tasty and fresh. The seafood boil was yummy BC the shrimp weren't overcooked and LARGE. The sausage, corn and large mushrooms were delish and the crawfish were fresh but were on the small to medium size. Oh did I mention the Miller Lites longnecks were only a $1.00 I ended up eating three servings of oysters and was sinfully stuffed. What a satisfying meal and it was so reasonable! Service from our waitress was friendly and point on. Salvo's also offers fresh seafood uncooked to go and accepts credit cards. Enjoy!

I come to NOLA frequently to cost one of my best friends and one of the things we bond over is our love for food. She recently discovered this place and promised to take me upon my next visit. Like true fat kids we planned this visit for two days before I arrived....war gaming what to eat the day of and how much so we could maximize our seafood eating. Upon arrival we waited for about an hour to be seated, we expected the wait so it wasn't a big deal. While we waited we enjoyed beers and eyed people's food. In the end the wait was completely worth it!! We had the all you can eat platter and it was hands down some of the best seafood I've ever had. Despite the fact that it was late at night and they were getting ready to close they still served us hearty portions of delicious shrimp, crab legs, mussels, mushrooms, potatoes and corn....all smothered in mouthwatering seasoning and a tub of butter on the side. I was worried we would get bottom of the barrel food and service because of the time, but the food as well as the staff were excellent. I will be returning for another round very soon!

Do you like seafood? Yes you say, well then, you would love Salvo's! It is no frills. A down home seafood joint serving up some fresh, fried, or boiled deliciousness. Showing up on a Thursday night during Lent, my party of 6 thought there would be no wait. We were wrong, but it wasn't unpleasant. Thursday night is $1 longnecks, so we sipped a few brews while we sat outside waiting for a table. Once inside (we had waited about 30 minutes), we were seated at a picnic like table with picnic benches and were greeted by our waitress. She was friendly and attentive, considering the restaurant was slammed (Note: you hit this place up on a Friday during Lent, no way your wait is less than a hour). I had the shrimp poboy. I've never met a po boy I didn't like! But Salvo's serves up a great one! I had the potato salad for a side. It was tasty, but I kind of wish I didn't order it because I was so full. Four others in our party had crawfish. Good size, the right seasoning. Spicy enough to make your nose run a little, but not enough to set your lips on fire. Perfection! Bread pudding finished this meal off and I think all were satisfied. You find yourself on the westbank with a seafood craving, Salvo's should be your stop. Heck, make a trip over the bridge just to experience it! Come on, the WB isn't so bad :)

This is one of the many lunch spots around my job site. One day I decided to check it out. Finding parking here was really tough, I actually had to wait until someone drove away and left before I could park my car. When I went in there was not a single table available for dining in. That is why I decided to make my order to go. The women behind the counter were very friendly, but they were incredibly flustered and busy. So I didn't try and talk to them too much. I ordered the shrimp PoBoy with some french fries. I will admit that the PoBoy was out of this world! It has been awhile since I had a good PoBoy sandwich like that. The fries were fresh and delicious. The decor ain't much a simple deli and sandwich shop theme. I had to wait a good 10 minutes on my food. The worst part is when I was trying to get back across the bridge over the canal. I got stuck waiting 15 minutes. Partly because the drawbridge was up and also traffic was down to one lane because of road work. The next time I go here I will wait until I get off of work and not go during my lunch break. In short great place to grab a PoBoy sandwich but be sure and only go when you do not have any real time constraints.

Extremely friendly service. The food was very tasty. We each had a cup of seafood gumbo and split the shrimp and oyster po' boy. Typically, I am NOT one to like po' boys but this time I really enjoyed it. Nice spot to stop for lunch.

For an all you could eat seafood place this is it. Great service, excellent food. You may have to wait to get a table so grab a ticket and watch for your number to be called. Each night has a different twist on the all you can eat. Crawfish only one night , crab and shrimp the next. May want to call to see what's on the menu for the all you can eat before you go

Food was pretty good and reasonably priced. The overly fishy smell when we walked in almost made me turn around and walk out; my son refused to eat there (he's five, so there's that). But, it IS a seafood restaurant so I guess that's to be expected. The house salad of iceberg lettuce, sliced tomatoes and dill pickle chips with packaged dressings was underwhelming. I was starting to have my doubts at this point. I ordered the tuna steak, which was served with sautéed onions and was very tasty. My hubby had the trio of fried shrimp, fried clams and catfish, which he loved. The bread pudding was fantastic with delicious rum sauce. Thankfully we got there early; by the time we left there was a crowd of people milling around outside. We would go back.

Would recommend the boiled shrimp or the fried seafood. Wasnt a fan of the crawfish. I am a huge crawfish fan but they came out and one wouldnt peel right and two tasted mealy not sure the correct word for it just the texture was off
